Let's Look at the One, Two, Three of Things.
I'm
using some vivid color symbolism this week to connect you, right brain-wise,
to The Empress and her lush, rich wealth and profusion of energy, abundance
and gifts.
I've
prepared a series of slides to help you meditate on the qualities of the
Numbers 1, 2 and 3, an important step in our Tarot learning process at
the moment.
Joseph Murphy, one of my favorite metaphysical writers, has a good description
of the 1, 2, 3 of things in "Secrets of the I Ching". He happens
to be comparing the I Ching with the Bible in this segment, but it is
the metaphysical interpretation of the Bible he is referring to, of course.
- Numbers
in the Bible and in the I Ching represent attributes and potencies of
God.

For example, the numeral one is a symbol of God and is frequently referred
to as such in the Bible. God, or One, is the original of all things
and the cause of all things.
- #2
The two represents division, the opposites, such as male and female,
night and day. Psychologically, two represents your desire. When you
have a desire, your mind is divided; it is not in a state of wholeness
or oneness. Nourish, sustain and give attention to your desire, feeling
and knowing that as you meditate on it you will appropriate and assimilate
it into your subconscious mind, where it will die.
- Do
dwell on that last sentence, please. It contains some of the greatest
wisdom in the esoteric world. It explains this strange phenomenon that
you are all familiar with: I try and try to get pregnant, so I "give
up" and go to graduate school and then I get pregnant.
It
explains why you will often get something almost the instant you "quit
caring". Here is a reminder that came with The Magician. You are
doing this magic all the time. We are just making you conscious that
you are doing this magic.

- #3
Three means conviction, subconscious impregnation, where you no longer
have the desire. This is a conditioned state which follows the work
you did with Number 2.
- #4
(next week, The Emperor) Four represents the manifestation or the objectification
of your subconscious impression. It is also a symbol of the world.

Any book Joseph Murphy wrote is a good book to have in your metaphysical
library. He is learned but user friendly. He gives vivid examples of what
he is talking about. I often recommended this when I owned the Magic Bookstore.

is The Empress who gives The Emperor his kingdom or empire. In a polarity
switch common in the esoteric realm:
male:
Magician
female:
High Priestess

The
strange painting on the right is by one of my favorite painters, Eugene
Delacroix and it is called "Louis XIII Showing his Mistress to his
Friend". I selected it to show the break in intimacy that occurs
beween 2 and 3. This is why nothing that goes on between two people can
ever be shared. Once a third enters, the bond is broken.
